John Mazziotti Feb 23rd, 2018 ELA Dr. Cobos Choose your favorite page or set of pages. Explain why they are your favorite and why they matter to the book.   My favorite set of pages is the bottom of page 39 , page 40 and 41, these pages have very powerful words. These words describe Thi looking into the past about how she got to where she was, all the trouble and danger that she went through. "I keep looking toward the past...tracing our journey in reverse...over the ocean...through the war...seeking an origin story...that will set everything right.", that is the direct quote from that page, and it all correlates with what I've described. This is why these pages matter to the book, because they reflect directly on her past.

Blog #4 OHP Process

Blog #4 OHP Process Q 1:  What did you enjoy most about the interview process of the Oral History Project?            The most enjoyable part of the OHP was the interview portion, you could learn so many ways of how people helped the recovery process of hurricane Harvey. You could hear their personal thoughts about what they thought and how their whole thinking process reflected on what they did. It is honestly the most interesting and intriguing experience that I have had this whole year. The way that Robert explained the whole concept of dealing with a hurricane in general was on the spot and could not be projected any more perfectly. The interview portion was relaxed and not incredibly nerve racking, but I feel bad for Hunter personally considering that he was asking 90% of all the questions. Overall this was a great process and a very inspiring interview. Q 2:  What advice would you give to others about working in a g...

Persepolis Blog #3

Persepolis Blog # 3 Why do you think Marjane needed to move away from Iran?  Moving away from Iran for her was only to better her life in education, and because of the laws restricting women from doing specific things that are perfectly possible and legal in most countries. Also, I feel as if the education system at that time in most Middle Eastern countries was corrupt and could be improved over the years. But they showed no improvement in her years of school so they sent her to Austria. Another great reason is that she could be safe from the on going war and bombings in her neighborhood and she could get all of the educational rights and usual rights that any traditional Euro would get. Overall I think this was a really good decision made by her parents to better her education, and to better her future.

Weekly Journal Assignment #1

John Mazziotti Why did Marjane's parents decide to send her to Europe? Do you think this was the right decision? Why or why not?       They sent her to Europe because of their countries corrupt education system, and because her behavior she was most likely to get arrested because of it. Europe has a great education system, there are many more freedoms including religion and speech. She could walk outside without a veil on in Austria and not have to worry about people arresting her, beating her, and harassing her with terrible names. I certainly do think this was the right decision due to her current situation. Why? it allows her to pursue the education that she never could get back in Iran. There are many more options to study in Austria, rather than it being religious based. Women also have many more rights inside of Austria than Iran, so it is the perfect set of options for her to get kickstarted into a new career and a new life.
